COMPARING MOJODESK AND THE IKEA BEKANT SIT-STAND DESK

DESKTOPS CONTOURED FOR WRIST COMFORT

The rise in popularity and intensity within the gaming industry has yielded repetitive wrist injuries caused by tears in and inflammation of tendons as well as pain in hands and forearms. MojoDesk combats this epidemic with a beveled edge for resting wrists and forearms.

HAND CONTROLS AND PRE-SETS

MojoDesk comes with four pre-sets, a hand-held controller and an LED number display to adjust the desk height. The IKEA Bekant hand control comes with an up-down button, but no digital display nor presets.

ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS

While IKEA has made loud claims that it will reduce its climate impact by 70 percent per product by 2030, its IKEA Bekant desk makes no mention of an industry-critical certification by Greenguard. Greenguard certification is a designation of sustainability that measures the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) emitted by office and gaming furniture. MojoDesk goes the distance when it comes to sustainability, with full top-to-bottom Greenguard certification.

STABILITY ISSUES

While the IKEA Bekant designers’ original intent, per the website, was to make “flexible desk combinations” that encourage collaboration and creativity, they seemed to have traded flexibility for stability. Wobble and rocking issues are substantial starting at the lowest position, and they get worse as the desk rises. Go much higher than 33” and productivity is affected.

Round columns and a missing cross-support are the likely culprits for the deficient stability. Further, while IKEA stayed on-brand in providing a cheap, simple connection method to shorten assembly time, the IKEA Bekant fasteners are flimsy when it comes to connecting the desktop and the base. The feet of the MojoDesk are centered for gravity, and our gaming desk - and all our desks - are constructed to mitigate any rocking or wobbling. 

HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN THE IKEA BEKANT HOLD?

While the IKEA Bekant standing desk has a lift capacity of 154 pounds, go much beyond that and the lowering speed slows significantly. MojoDesk has a 300-pound lift capacity, as verified via independent tests of 20,000 up-down cycles with hundreds of pounds placed across the desktop.  

WARRANTY

Details of IKEA’s “limited” 10-year warranty are hard to find on the IKEA website. A Google search for the warranty (no link was provided) revealed that neither the desktop shelf nor the screens are covered under warranty. The search also indicated that the term “limited” referred to their customer service. The MojoDesk warranty, on the other hand, is clear:  all desktops, hardware, parts, motors and electrical components are covered for regular usage.
